South Africa’s Constitutional Court handed down an important judgment. It clarified the powers of the Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela and held that the recommendations made in her Nkandla report were binding. It also left President Jacob Zuma in an uncomfortable position.

While the court has done its job, the politics remain tricky and Zuma seems set to survive politically – but for how long?

Judith February, ISS consultant in ISS’ Governance, Crime and Justice Division, will present this View on Africa briefing. She will discuss the Constitutional Court judgment and the potential political fallout for Zuma and the African National Congress.
