The AU Commission elections: what's at stake?
Date: 8 July 2016
Time: 09h00 - 12h30
Venue: Radisson Blu, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Elections for the African Union (AU) Commission are expected to take place during the upcoming AU summit from 13 – 18 July in Kigali.

Eight commissioners, the chairperson and his or her deputy are to be chosen. Contrary to expectations, the elections are likely to be as competitive among regional blocs and prominent member states as the 2012 elections were.

This seminar will discuss what is at stake and the consequences for the AU of various outcomes. Rather than make predictions, speakers will focus on the electoral process and institutional trends.
