Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s life tells a story of a man who served his country, Tanzania, and the entire continent with distinction. As a committed pan-African, his engagement in the struggle for a free, united, integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa remains a source of inspiration for current and future generations. This event launches the book Salim Ahmed Salim: Son of Africa edited by Dr Jakkie Cilliers, Chairperson of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Board of Trustees and head of African Futures and Innovation at the ISS.

The book covers Salim’s contribution and service to Tanzania, the United Nations and the African continent focusing on unity, peace, freedom, justice and liberation. It includes chapters by the African Union, the ISS and the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation. Salim had a long association with the ISS from his days as secretary general of the Organization of African Unity and as president of the ISS Advisory Council until 2014.
