In partnership with the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO), the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in collaboration with the Karamoja Agro Pastoral Development Programme (KADP), Centre for Basic Research (CBR) and a Senior Research Scholar with the Feinstein International Centre, Tufts University will conduct a Regional Feedback/Validation workshop in Moroto-Uganda from 24-26 August 2009 on four subject issues:

à‚ 

  1. The Social Transformation of Pastoralist Conflicts and Cattle Rustling in Eastern Africa: The AK-47 Factor;

  2. The Political Economy of Cattle Rustling;

  3. Development and Disarmament Initiatives in Zone 3:The Karamoja Cluster; and,

  4. Alternative Livelihoods for Pastoralist Groups in Zone 3: Karamoja Cluster.

The participants are drawn from Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda and comprise senior officers from government, civil society, development partners, research institutions, parliament, military, police (Anti-Stock Theft Unit) and interested persons involved in activities in the Karamoja Cluster.
