The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) – Addis Ababa Office in collaboration with the Ethiopian International Institute for Peace and Development (EIIPD) would like to cordially invite you to attend the Candlelight Vigil on 20th September 2010 at 18:00Hrs at Meskel Square.

On 31 August 2009, the African Union declared 2010 as a Year of Peace and Security in Africa. On 9 January 2010, the AU Commission officially inaugurated the Year with a motto, 2010 Make Peace Happen and Beyond. The Year of Peace and Security highlights the need to promote the message of peace, review and strengthen current peace efforts and where necessary launch new initiatives and mechanisms to advance stability on the African continent.

As part of the year long event and to celebrate the international peace day in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian International Institute for Peace and Development (EIIPD) and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) have jointly organized a half day event dedicated for brief and direct peace statements by key leaders of regional and national organizations. The ISS is among the few partner institutions of the AU Commission participating in its ‘Make Peace Happen in 2010 and Beyond campaign`. The Year of Peace and Security has been celebrated with various kinds of events including the destruction of arms, lighting the flame of peace, football games, peace journeys, and workshops in various parts of Africa and the world at large.

You are invited to participate in this important day. Please forward this invitation to interested colleagues.
