ISS Conference, BY INVITATION ONLY: Africa and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime

Organised by the Africa's Development and the Threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction Project, Pretoria Office in collaboration with Wilton Park

The ISS will co-host, with Wilton Park, an international conference on "Africa and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime" from 4 – 7 March 2012. The conference is supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, London and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oslo. The objectives of the conference are to assess the present and future role of Africa in the nuclear non-proliferation regime, and the prospects for a more co-ordinated policy in light of the current NPT Review Cycle; the need for increased technical co-operation and assistance; the imperative to prevent toxic dumping in Africa and the need to enhance the role of African States in disarmament and non-proliferation initiatives. The conference will bring together more than 30 high-profile representatives from African states and regional organisations, as well as African and international experts.
